Text Pot Final Update: November 6, 2020
The basis of my text pot is the global movement “Black Lives Matter.” In the year of 2020, I felt that it was important to represent such a prominent aspect of our world. People of color have been underprivileged for centuries, and inequality has become a second apparent pandemic in the year of 2020. I take pride in the fact that I support a tireless fight to build power and seek justice for millions of people who have been subject to racism for centuries. “Black Lives Matter” is a movement that is incredibly important to me and should be to the world, and I am prepared to be active in resolving problems regarding racism for 381 days in Richmond. Even if it is just making a small pot with the words “Black Lives Matter” on it, I am proud of being involved in an ongoing cause to end inequality in the world.
"Dish for a Dish" Final Update: November 16, 2020
My "Dish for a Dish" is a hand-built dumpling platter, made for my family's traditional Chinese dumplings. I sought to create some kind of dish for dumplings and was interested in the idea of a piece that focused on form and slimness. I rolled a thin slab, draped the clay over four bottles, and allowed the clay to dry on the mold. I then fired and glazed my "Dish for a Dish" with clear glaze, added a homemade batch of vegetarian dumplings, and photographed my hand-built piece.
"Discover Your Path" Cohesive Collection: January 6, 2020
My "Discover Your Path" cohesive collection includes three pieces glazed in the color 'smokey merlot.' These three are cohesive because of their shared color and variety in the type of piece; one bowl and two vases. The combination of purple and red hues creates a really special effect. At the start of the second nine weeks I had a completely different idea for my "Discover Your Path" final product, but I am proud of how everything turned out. From mugs and plates to teacups to my final product, I worked really hard to do my best.
